Okay, so I attended the performance last Saturday with no preconceived notion, and was pleasantly treated to 2 of the dopest voices I have heard in a while. First much respect given to Militant Child – you are blessed, and extremely talented! I dug the way you just flipped the script on that SHIT and handled your business – no fear, no shame that was fly, true artist style – Fo real, for real. “Snapples”
By the by you might want to think about doing the a capella thing more often!!
Second, D’Lo much love for you being you! Cultural is such a wonderful thing. It is amazing to me how we can become so caught up in our own cultural that we forget that for as different as we are we’re also the same. You to are blessed to be free and able to live and know yourself at such a young age. Please continue inspiring, and thank you for sharing your world and journey thus far.
Your gifts have inspired me, Thank you for a wonderful show.
Voices Rising is an ongoing series of performances by LGBTQ performers of color. Founded in 2007 by artist and activist Storme Webber, Voices Rising has emerged as the leading showcase for queer performers of color. Past shows have featured performances by standout artists such as Nedra Johnson, D'LO, Mami Watu & Avery R. Young, okonomode aka SoulChilde, Christa Bell, Dakota Camacho and many, many more. Performances are held quarterly at Washington Hall's historic Ballroom. Funding for the project is sustained through ticket sales, event sponsorships, grants and donations.
